Welcome!

Friends,

Since being elected six years ago, I have proudly served the people of House District 35 as your Democratic State Representative.  During that time, I have proven myself to be a knowledgeable legislator.  I am a member of both the House Education Committee and the Health and Environment Committee.

During the past five years, I have made great progress in better knowing the people and the process down at the State Capitol.  I have carried and supported bills to conserve our resources, strengthen our schools, and energize our economy.  I have worked with many groups to build consensus on good policy for Colorado.  While doing this, I have really strived to work with both my Democratic and Republican colleagues because cooperation is a value many of you have told me is as important to you as it is to me.

What is most important to me is during the last six years, I have gotten to know many of you by attending homeowners association meetings, helping to solve a multitude of constituent problems, visiting businesses, attending many community events, and walking door to door throughout House District 35.  I know the people of this district, and I care about what you care about.

We have great challenges as we look forward to the 2012 legislative session – our schools are over-burdened by testing, our school buildings are in need of repair, our traffic problems are increasing, over 700,000 Coloradans do not have healthcare, and over 200,000 Coloradans can’t find a steady job. Some of these problems we will need to fix at the ballot box and some we will do everything in our power and in the state’s budget to improve.  As legislators, we have really reached out to groups of experts and everyday folks to help solve these issues.  It takes all of us.

Sincerely,

Representative Cherylin Peniston
